Yeah sorry Kimye, but you are not the #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple. In our world, it is doughnut and croissant.
Dominique Ansel’s Cronut has spread from the Big Apple all the way to Maine, where Little Big’s Bakery makes a Cronut all there own. Well they used to.
The SoHo pastry shop slapped Little Big’s with a cease and desist lawsuit over their faux Cronuts. Fair enough, because Mr. Ansel has trademarked the term “Cronut” itself.
The cheeky bastard award, however, goes to Little Big’s owner James Plunkett. Forced to rid the bakery of the Cronut name but not the pastry itself, he held a poll to decide on a name change. The bakery settled on C&D’s, short for Cease and Desist.
“We kind of looked at it as a badge of honor,” Mr. Plunkett told WMTV. “A guy in New York City recognized a tiny little operation like Little Bigs here in South Portland, so it was kind of fun. We took it as a moment of pride.”
Dominique Ansel is truly a bakery god if he can make even his lawsuits taste sweet.
