John Coltrane

The hurricane may have changed the city for now, but as we begin to resume our lives once more, some things are thankfully constant—like the beauty of Central Park in fall. Organizers are going ahead with Jazz & Colors, a celebration of autumn featuring dozens of free jazz performances throughout the park. It’s the first park-wide public-arts program since The Gates back in 2005, at the moment New Yorkers need cheering up the most; small jazz combos and big bands will be switching off playing the exact same set list (including works by John Coltrane, Billy Strayhorn and—somehow both unexpectedly and predictably—Jay-Z). We’ll be wandering through: see you at Duke Ellington Circle.

Throughout Central Park from noon to 4pm, free and open to the public.
