One NYPD officer may have taken things a bit too far.
The New York Daily News reported that Erica Noonan, a 31-year-old Bronx woman, filed a $150 million lawsuit against NYPD Officer Carlos Becker over a slew of allegations that included excessive force, negligent training, assault, battery, false arrest, rape, libel, malicious prosecution, abuse of authority, and harassment.
Ms. Noonan asserts that she was pulled over for drunk driving March 11, 2013 because Officer Becker thought she was attractive. Once in handcuffs, he took a cell phone video of her backside and forced her to go out with him, assuring her that her DWI arrest would be dropped.
In one of 600-plus text messages, Officer Becker, 31, texted Ms. Noonan: “I’m going to talk to the district [attorney] on Monday,” according to her lawsuit.
Once on the March 24, 2013 date with Officer Becker, Ms. Noonan claims that he got her a drink. Next thing she knew, she woke up in his bed with a black eye, which he claimed she gave to herself.
“I am deeply saddened and hurt by the acts of Officer Becker against me,” she said. “It is my sincere hope that the NYPD takes measures to ensure that another citizen is not violated, as I was, at the hands of a police officer.”
Ms. Noonan was cleared of her DWI arrest just last week. Meanwhile, Officer Becker was cleared this past December of misdemeanor official misconduct after a Bronx judge ruled his actions surrounding the videoing to be objectionable, but not unlawful.
“Police officers are entrusted with the solemn duty to protect and serve the public,” Stephen Drummond, Ms. Noonan’s lawyer, told the Daily News. “Here Officer Becker abused that trust by placing his personal desire above his oath, and for that he and the NYPD must be held accountable.”
