Fashion Week is one of the best weeks of the year to be in New York. I love the feeling of the fashion industry coming together to celebrate the new collections. It’s a great moment for every American designer, big and small. The New York Observer asked me to share my plans for the coming days.
The day before the show is the busiest for the creative team. Whether we’re recreating Central Park or a California beachscape, part of what sets our shows apart is that we always showcase our collections on a show-stopping set. This season has a dramatic winter-inspired perspective, so there is a lot of work to be done to finalize the details, from scenic artists hand-painting the décor elements to the P.R. team finalizing the seating chart and my preshow interview schedule.
Today is my last day of press previews! Many of the international editors don’t arrive until late Saturday, so this is the only opportunity I have to meet with them. Speaking with these editors from around the world really gives a sense of how global the fashion industry is today. I love hearing the international reactions and feedback from these powerful industry leaders on their respective markets.
Dee and I will time from the busy schedule to attend Diane von Furstenberg’s show at Spring Studios in celebration of her 40th year in business. Diane is a great friend and wonderful industry leader.
