It's Labor Day. Which means you are either spending one last day drinking beer and eating dubiously cooked Hamburgers on some roof somewhere, in an office wishing you were at a BBQ possibly getting Salmonella or spending the day` plotting how best to avoid traffic on the way back to reality.

Either way, it's good to have some articles to reference when the small talk fails.

David Carr examines the tendency of political reporters to live-tweet the campaign coverage. Meanwhile, Nick Bilton looks at the emerging backlash to the constant phone checking. Is this the beginning of the end of the smartphone? Probably not, but it all makes for a good story (both of which we read on our iPhone). (The New York Times/The New York Times)

British broadcaster David Frost, famous for interviewing Richard Nixon, died this weekend. Lord Birt, the former BBC director general and the producer for those interviews, spoke about Mr. Frost's importance. (The Guardian)

The New Republic's Noreen Malone really likes The Onion. (TNR)

Margaret Sullivan has been the public editor for a year now. (The New York Times)

The New Yorker's books blog writes about BuzzFeed, in list form, naturally. (Page-turner, Newyorker.com)
