Former New York Post reporter Lachlan Cartwright is returning to New York next week to work for the Confident@l, The Daily News’s gossip section, for which he will cover nightlife and entertainment.
The Australian Mr. Cartwright, who left New York for London last year, came to the Post after a seven year stint as at the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun. Since decamping for England, Mr. Cartwright has written for the Sun, as well as freelanced for a host of New York- and Australia-based publications.
Mr. Cartwright joins section editor Marriane Garvey, Brian Niemietz and News feature writer Molly Friedman, who contributes to the page. The move will mean that the the gossip section, which was relaunched last summer, will be back to capacity following the departures of Carson Griffith, Lisa Lang and Observer alum Nate Freeman.
Mr. Cartwright is part of a steady stream of Post reporters heading over to the News. Both Mr. Niemietz and Ms. Garvey are New York Post alums, as is the paper’s new TV editor, Don Kaplan, and recently named managing editor for features editor Raakhee Mirchandani. Former New York Post features reporter and Gawker alum Sheila McClear, who left the Post in September, also recently joined the staff as a features reporter.
Mr. Cartwright did not reply to request for comment.
