A journalism center named after the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was murdered while on assignment in Pakistan in 2002, has been opened at The Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel, the AP reports.
The new center further validates Mr. Pearl's enduring legacy, which survives in and out of journalism.
Moment Magazine, the monthly Jewish publication, started the Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative in 2010 to "encourage young journalists to write in-depth stories about a modern manifestation of anti-Semitism or another deeply ingrained prejudice," as the magazine's website reads.
And in February, when Ed Koch died--on the same day, 11 years later, that Mr. Pearl was violently beheaded by terrorists--the former New York City mayor's tombstone was inscribed with Mr. Pearl's last words: "My father is Jewish, my mother is Jewish, I am Jewish."
